After a short software update the system is up a running and the experimenting starts. The rest is plugging in cables and turning on the system. That is the hard part of the installation. The 100 foot cat 5 cables can reach anywhere in a normal size house with lots of spare. But than you can always half ass it a cut a lot of corners, but to do a professional job, count on a few hours of work. Even with 44 years of experience as an outside tech with AT&T, fish tape and push rods, it was a chore. This necessitated a lot of attic work, which can be a challenge depending on your roof design, gable or hip. I installed all of my cameras on the outside of my house under the eaves. There is no way to estimate the installation t. First about the installation, which I did myself. Also the two year warranty from Lorex was a selling point.
I wanted a system that utilized cat 5 cables rather than BNC, and even though I only needed 6 cameras, I purchased this system with eight cameras because the price difference was minimal with a deal through Sams Club. I did research on several systems and decided on the model NK182-85CB for various reasons.
